We stayed at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Taipei in march for 5 nights in an horizon club room. The location is very good, with uber or taxi you can get easily everywhere. The room was very nice, very well equipped, nothing to be missed. The beds were very good. The food in the cozy and comfortable horizon lounge was in best quality, and very good variety. The pool area was nice as well. We can not point out someone of the staff, as everybody of the hotels staff was friendly and very attentive, if front desk or horizon lounge or pool area! We had an absolutely outstanding stay. Thank you Shangri-La Far Eastern Taipei!

I am a regular customer of Shangri-La (Diamond member) and Shangri -La Far Eastern Taipei is my home away from home whenever visiting. Shangri-La Taipei is all about its people. It’s one of these very few hotels where some of the employees are pioneers and have worked here since the opening in 1994. One of them is in-room dining’s Soccoro and also a Filipino-Taiwanese gentleman at the door who chatted to me whilst waiting for a taxi. He told me how he enjoyed his job and worked at the hotel since the opening (forgive me I forgot his name). There’s also a hotel Labrador dog adopted by staff, which I personally had no chance to encounter but I find the idea great. I also realised that the hotel has many repeat guests, as I remember seeing some them in my prior stays. This is testament to the property’s success in maintaining a loyal customer base. I usually book a city premium room, which if lucky comes with a partial view of 101. The room is very classy, as is the entire hotel with its elegant yet not too extravagant Chinoiserie. The singer in the lobby adds to the elegant vibe. The hotel has been refurbished whilst the classic features of Shangri-La have been retained all over. The hotel’s corridor is one the most classy ones I’ve seen so far. Room has all the features you would expect of a hotel of this standing, with a beautiful bathroom, huge bathtub and separate shower with Toto toilets being the main feature in my opinion! Housekeeping service is very efficient too. I have access to the Horizon Club lounge, where the young members of staff promptly recognised me upon check-in. Similar to their older colleague, you can feel they are passionate about their job and go the extra mile in making sure all guests are attended to. Bella and her colleagues are amazing! Food selections for breakfast, tea and dinner are varied and very generous as you would expect from a Shangri-La not mentioning the beautiful view of Taipei 101, arguably one of the best spots in Taipei to picture the tower. My stay was met by a minor issue, as my wake-up call request was not logged as planned. I was on holiday so not that of a big deal but I nevertheless told telephone operator in the morning about the mishap. Few minutes later, duty manager called me back and brought me a bottle of wine despite me insisting I didn’t need anything. I later learned that my wake-up call request was picked up by reception instead of switchboard operator (operator was dealing with other calls at the time I dialled for a wake-up) and the reception staff picking up my wake-up call request did not have the same training as the telephone operator would have had. I appreciate the transparency and service recovery move, which the associates initiated without me asking. There are plenty of food options in the property. I tried in room dining, and the quality is similar to what you would get in the restaurant. If you’re lucky enough you will be served by the lovely Soccoro I mentioned earlier. I tried buffet breakfast once, selection is huge but I somehow like to coziness of the lounge with less choice. I went up to Marco Polo lounge bar, which had a very talented female local singer at night. A great vibe! I was however slightly disappointed by the lack of choices at the bar. The hotel’s Lobby Lounge and Li Bai bar seem to have more choices and better drinks menu than Marco Polo bar ironically. For example, gin tonic only comes with Schweppes instead of Fever Tree. Bar snacks need improvement too. Is there a way the management could move more gin selections upstairs and have more cocktails? Apart from the slightly lacking drinks menu, it’s a great place to be on an evening. There’s also the rooftop swimming pool. Water is heated and it’s big enough to make some consistent laps. The view is beautiful too! Last but not least, don’t be intimidated by the seemingly not so central location of the hotel. The hotel is 10 minutes away from Taipei 101, be it by taking a taxi or using one of the many public bikes docked outside of the hotel. It’s called YouBike and you can easily download the app to go around. Be it by taxi or bike, Taipei 101 and the nearest MRT station are a 10 minutes ride from the hotel. The semi-residential neighbourhood around the hotel is lovely too. All in all, I’m looking forward to my next stay! A few recommendations for the management to take into consideration: - Be more attentive to guests’ profile, especially Diamond’s advance request for specific room number or floor - Align with other Shangri-La properties and waive the fee for local calls made using the room phone - Activate the keycard verification system for guest room floors - Take note of the comment on bar menu Shangri-La Circle is probably my favourite loyalty programme out there. The only improvement I would hope to see is more generous room upgrades. Shangri-La now has an invite-only programme called Polaris. The official requirements to become one seem to be very secretive but I would presume it is only reserved to people with a very strong relationship with Shangri-La. It would be interesting to read some reviews from Polaris members but I haven’t seen any, meaning it’s probably only given to very few people (understandably given the amazing benefits!)

Stayed here for 3 nights at a horizon club floor. Everyone i encountered has been polite and provided excellent service. From the airport pickup, to the checkin, room cleaning, horizon club floor, checkout, and departure. Thanks to Katherine Lin from Horizon club for being attentive when i needed assistance and Jasper Wee for giving breakfast to go when i had to leave early for my flight. Both going the extra mile!
